HOW BRILEY FARM CAME TO BE

Established in 1887, the town of Oakland retains much of its original laid-back, unpretentious character. Many of its residents descend from original settlers. Among those are the Briley Family, from whom the farm's namesake derives.

MORE THAN 100 YEARS OF HISTORY

Farming and the railroad brought the Briley family to the area prior to the turn of the century. In 1900, the family moved onto the present homestead that rests on Lake Apopka, planting fields of cabbage, lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers. They nurtured strong roots and created an enduring legacy that continues to thrive to this day. Some of the original structure of the historic family home purchased by Samuel J. Briley in 1900 still stands, renovated most recently by great-grandson Jefferson Rich Voss.
